To nurture students with a strong sense of nationhood, national identity and holistic view of national security, the Moral and Civic Education team has participated in a series of national security and basic law educational activities.
Our students have participated in various activities including the “Basic Law Online Course for Secondary School Students’ Self-directed Learning”, “National Constitution Day Online Quiz Competition”, “National Day Online Quiz Competition”, HKEdcity “LS Online Challenge” (organised by China Association for Cultural Studies), “Understanding National Affairs Students’ Self-directed Learning Online Platform” and “Key to the Future” Short Video Competition (co-organised by the Department of Justice, HKSAR Government and “Vision 2030 for Rule of Law”). The students not only showed their enthusiastic response, but also had a better understanding of the “Basic Law”, “Constitution” and “National Security Law”.
The student leaders of the school’s Moral and Civic Education team have also taken part in the "Basic Law Student Ambassadors Training Scheme 2021”, organized by the Education Bureau. Through the training scheme, their understanding of the “Constitution” and “Basic Law” has been enhanced. Besides, they were able to know more about the national politics and legal system, and to demonstrate their leadership ability and broaden their horizons.
There would be a flag-raising and national-anthem-playing ceremony on every Friday and big event, such as graduation ceremony and sports day. To let students have a better understanding of national affairs and history, the moral and civic education ambassadors and teachers would give an under-the-flag speech of sharing during special dates, such as the National Security Education Day, the Memorial Day for the 84th Anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre and the HKSAR Anniversary.
To help students reflect and practise the 9 key values and attitude, and to nurture students with a strong sense of nationhood and national identity, relevant Chinese cultural activities of every key learning area have also been organised for students’ discussion. For example, the Chinese culture tour co-organised by Chinese and Visual Arts:
Calligraphy and Art Making (Truth, Goodness and Beauty)
Tea Travelogue Cultural Experience
Appreciation of Chinese Opera
Classics Reading
Art Day Camp by Visual Arts:
Students would participate in workshops organised by external organisations and learn outside the classroom. Leading by some local artists, students would experience various creative activities and creative learning and as a result, their interest in arts will be boosted.
In addition to the above local activities, our school has also organised the “Learning Without Walls - Cross-border Exchange Project” for the exchange with the sister school in Mainland China (changed to online exchanges due to the pandemic):
